Last night the zombie of native forest logging was reanimated

From Victoria National Parks Association (20/3/25)…

On Wednesday night, the native logging zombie lurched through the doors of an East Gippsland Shire Council meeting.
Councillors approved a permit to log a whopping 51 hectares of threatened wildlife habitat on private land.
Home to threatened animals like Greater Gliders, Long-footed Potoroos and Yellow-bellied Gliders.
A few weeks ago I emailed you about private logging ripping through Critically Endangered Leadbeater’s Possum habitat (copied below). The difference is, that uses decades old permits. But last night, a new permit was granted, and that’s where the zombie was reanimated.
Tell them to end habitat logging on private land
One councillor said it ‘may open the gates to other properties doing the same thing.’
And that’s what we’re worried about.
It’s up to the loggers to ‘self-report’ and figure out whether they’re following national nature laws.
Clearly a massive conflict of interest that could have devastating consequences for wildlife.

The good news is, there’s a straightforward solution. The Planning Minister could close this loophole today with a simple amendment.

We know native forest logging kills iconic animals like Greater Gliders and Koalas. This zombie has no place in 2025.

Wildlife and habitats deserve protection. Everywhere.
