Sewer spill into Tanti Creek

We’ve had a sewer spill at 26 John Rowell Lane, Mornington this afternoon (Monday 2 December) with overflow into a stormwater drain leading towards Tanti Creek and Mills Beach, Mornington.

A blocked sewer pipe has unfortunately caused the spill.

Thankfully we’ve cleared the blockage quickly and are now sandbagging and educting at the stormwater outfall at Tanti Creek.

We’ll conduct water quality testing in the area tonight (Monday 2 December) and we’ll receive the results in around 24 hours.

We’ll update you again once we have the results

As a precaution, we’re asking residents and community groups (and animals) to not use or handle the water in Tanti Creek and Mills Beach, Mornington.  We will erect advisory signs tonight.

We’ll continue working to contain the spill and will monitor the area to reduce any impacts on the environment.

We’re keeping the Environmental Protection Authority, Melbourne Water and the Mornington Life Saving Club updated on the situation.

If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thanks,
