This is a massive win for the campaign but the fight is not over yet.

The DDO allows for 3 storeys along the waterfront between Wells and Beach Streets.VCAT case was vacated until October.

We finally met with the Minister Sonya Kilkenny last Friday 30 June after seven months of requests via email and phone. We put our case forward and it appears she listened.

Community groups and individuals were appearing on the first day of the VCAT hearing yesterday for the PACE 16 storey development when the Tribunal received the news. The hearing was initially halted whilst all partied investigated the gazette publication and then resumed with the Tribunal announcing the hearing was adjourned. We have since been notified a Practice Day Hearing date has been set for 1st November 2023.

We have a long way to go with the implementation of the 2023 FMAC Structure Plan with the “preferred heights” of 41 metres but we can at least know that we have some mandatory controls in place in the meantime.

We also have outstanding debts for VCAT representation costs incurred to date so any financial assistance, no matter how small, is still needed and much appreciated.
