In our November working bee we focused on Red Bluff, inspected new developments and hand weeded around significant flora, liberating weeping grass (Microlaena stipoides) and Kneed Wallaby-grass (Rytidosperma geniculatum). The weeds targeted were: Vulpia bromoides (Squirrel-tail Fescue), Briza maxima (Large Quaking-grass), Ehrharta erecta (Panic Veldt-grass), Anthoxanthum odoratum (Sweet Vernal-grass) and Sporobolus africanus (Rat-tail Grass).
We also collected lots of stipa seed to plant out next year.
Sally and her team have done a great job up on the Bluff and there are now views to the Bay which have never been open before. So well done!! Lots of clematis in flower but we have lost a lot of canopy and need to look at planting more trees when funds permit.
We do not meet again until next February, so many thanks for everyone’s hard work and have a great festive season.
