Working Bee

The objective was to mulch a number of Banksias and She-oaks planted 18 months ago in the wild area west of the Herbert St path. There you can see the remnants of huge old banksias that in previous years would have comprised an extension of the existing Coast Banksia Woodland behind the boat houses at Mills Beach.
We moved about 4 cubic metres of mulch from this pile near the Herbert St lookout down 100m to the tip-off site west of the Herbert St path. Coming back up that precipitous path was a killer – even with an empty barrow!
At the drop-off point our intrepid mulching crew easily handled the steep and treacherous terrain. Buckets and barrows of mulch were carted throughout the scrub and in no time all 40 Banksias and She-oaks were done. We even had time to mulch around some of the existing native plants like the Poas, Rhagodia and Boobiallas.
We knocked off early to spend some time chewing the cud and munching on Jude’s delicious muffins. Yum! Great to see relative newcomers Paul, and Maureen & Peter. Thanks for coming along and thanks to everyone for a stirling effort. Don’t forget the Ibuprofin!
Many thanks for organising that Marty, and for putting together this report.
