Take action: A future for nature in the Central Highlands
The Central Highlands is a spectacular place. It’s also spectacularly under protected.
It’s full of incredible wildlife like Leadbeater’s Possums, Greater Gliders and Mountain Ash. It’s one of the most carbon dense forests in the world. A key source of Melbourne’s drinking water.
Yet it’s still threatened by extractive industries like rogue logging and mining.
For years we’ve talked about the need to create a Great Forest National Park in eastern Victoria. Now’s our best chance to make it happen. Opportunities like this don’t come along often.
We want to see:
- A network of parks and reserves with the highest possible protection and management.
- Better management, accountability and oversight of fire preparation.
- Traditional Owners playing a role in managing areas for conservation.
- The Central Highlands considered for world heritage nomination.
