News from the Mornington Railway Reserve

We have been doing the Saturday working bees for a couple of months and are now starting a Tuesday working bee on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

We are meeting for working bees in the railway reserve opposite Diamond Ct, about 300metres up from Bungower Rd. There is some parking space in Diamond Ct and plenty in the Bungower service road.

We are planning to continue the removal of Watsonias and also work on blackberries, gorse, burgan, pittosporum etc this year.

We are very encouraged by the much lower numbers of Watsonia in the areas that we worked in last year. It works. We can eradicate them from the reserve.

The numbers of boneseed seedlings are also well down this year. We just need to keep on top of the new ones.

We have applied for a grant to get Naturelinks in to help us tackle the worst areas of weeds in the Bungower-Oakbank section. Hopefully we will get that grant soon. We are concentrating on the less dense areas, which also correlates with the more diverse indigenous areas.

If you are interested in the conservation of the railway reserve and its biodiversity or if you know anyone who would like to be involved,  please contact Charlie Clarke (0439 999 135).
