The annual Clean Up Australia event took place at Mills Beach on Sunday March 3

We not only had a record turnout, but there were a number of a number of families, some who came and worked together.

It was so good to see so many enthusiastic young people coming along with their parents to help clean up- a great credit to both children and parents. Let’s hope they all come again next year.

As a result, about three quarters of the total were aged less than 50, another good sign for the future.

With the extra volunteers we were able to extend our work area, with volunteers going a distance to clean up Royal Beach, Fisherman’s Beach and some nearby streets.

Altogether 12 full bags of assorted rubbish were collected. Although there were no interesting or surprising big items, there was a very fancy bong. Additionally, there were two items that couldn’t be accessed: a car tyre in the middle of the creek and a shopping trolley thrown off one of the paths. The shire will have to deal with those.

Many thanks to all volunteers, I hope to see you all again next year.
